Tyrezone Kaitaia is a completely local, family owned company operated by the Garton family, who were all born and raised in the Far North.
For generations, the team has been part of the local business community, building long standing relationships with customers across Kaitaia and the wider Far North. In fact, the business has been around long enough to now see great-grandchildren of some of their original customers coming through the doors.
As an independent, family owned company, Tyrezone Kaitaia is not part of a national franchise. This gives the team the freedom to stock and source a wide range of tyre brands from across the New Zealand market, offering practical options to suit different vehicles, industries, requirements and budgets.

Behind Tyrezone Kaitaia is a family team with deep roots in the Far North, bringing together over 50 years of automotive experience, specialist tyre knowledge and a genuine commitment to looking after local customers.
Des Garton
Director
Des has worked for over 50 years in the Automotive Industry. Trained as an A-Grade Automotive Technician, he is widely known in the community for his extensive experience in the trade, and enjoys looking after our client’s needs, and running day-to-day operations in our Matthews Ave Kaitaia retail store.
Jeremy Garton
Director
Des’ son, Jeremy, has spent his working life in the business, beginning with training as an Automotive Technician, then was instrumental in growing the tyre sales and service division of the business. He looks after managing operations between our stores, and is well-known for his understanding of all tyre requirements, including all passenger and 4WD vehicles, and well able to advise our many clients in the commercial, forestry, industrial, agricultural & horticultural sectors.
Anthea Garton
Administrator
Des’ daughter, Anthea, looks after the administrative side of the company, having many years’ experience getting to know our extensive client base. Her job is to assist in keeping things running smoothly and keeping the records straight for both our stores and our customers. She‘s happy to assist in workshop management and sales when required.
Our Story
From a local automotive repair workshop to one of Kaitaia’s trusted tyre and service teams, Tyrezone Kaitaia has grown with the needs of Far North drivers, farms, fleets and operators.
Before purchasing the business, Des Garton had already worked there as foreman for around 15 years, building deep experience in automotive repairs, servicing and workshop operations. The business also worked with Kubota and Zetor tractor sales and service.
The business was purchased by Des Garton in 1993, originally operating as an automotive repair workshop with services including carburettor reconditioning, exhaust systems, LPG systems, brakes and general repairs.
Alongside general vehicle repairs and servicing, supporting local motorists and rural customers across the Far North.
As the automotive industry changed, so did the needs of local customers. Tyre sales, tyre servicing, wheel alignments and puncture repairs became a larger part of the business.
Today, Tyrezone is a local, family owned tyre and automotive business, providing tyre sales, wheel alignments, puncture repairs, commercial tyre support and selected vehicle servicing from its Kaitaia locations.
What has stayed the same is the focus on honest advice, practical service and looking after customers properly, whether they are everyday drivers, rural operators, commercial fleets or long-standing local families.
